I stood by
I stood by, and watched,
When I was needed most
I didn't want to intervene
Because
It seemed too hard
And I'd lose too much
And the time just wasn't right.
But
Since I stood by that day
I lost you, and I lost me
I you to the flailing whirl
And lost to its trail
And trail that streaked
Out across the sky
That buried itself in the earth.
I follow it now, in dark and in light
Hunting for you, for me.
And I don't think I'll ever find you
As for me, I hope I never do.
