Aching
Aching, from another time
Place, circumstances, world
Another reality in which
You played me for a fool
Made off with my mates
Left me agape, slack jawed
Wondering what world I had
Entered, or left, what
Reality this claimed to be.
An ache that echoes still
With the accidental reminder
Casual banter, recollection
Betrayed, alas this thing it
Continues and won't let got
Of me or my future, but
Rather grasps with a vice grip
Pressing close in the unwelcome hug
Of a lover not wanting it to end
When it's done.
And so it is
Yet lingers
On and on,
Aching.
