Snake
The first snake I ever saw
In Kings Park
Was hanging, lifeless,
From a 'burra's beak
The bird's hard whack
On the tree branch
As it scarfed
The snake fast and whole.
The snake a thin thread
Trailing behind the perched bird
A sign of life, and of love
And of freedom.
And my concerns, and my fears
And the frustration I came to lose
They evaporated, as one
Before the scene.
The first snake I saw
Came at a time most needed
Though its lesson
I still
Wonder afore.
Wonder afore.
